day 2

April 12, 2005 -- The Days Inn in Effingham was cool. They have Wi-fi and make-your-own-waffles in their free breakfast area, with batter and real waffle irons. Then I drove for about 13 hours. My elbows and shoulders can feel it. Wish there was someone here to give me arm twisties. (What's that? You'll have to ask...)

Woodland flowers in bloom at Silver Lake, which was actually behind a rest stop in Illinois.

The St. Louis arch... as you can see, I didn't really stop much except for a sandwich break.

Lilac-mauve and chartreuse are this week's fashionable colors. Heading southwest on I-70, the landscape became dotted with pretty pinkish-purplish crabapple trees starting to come into blossom. (Nothing really exciting yet in terms of pictures, but bear with me... I'm including these here for the pacing effect.)
